Spring is an elastic machine element that can deflect when subjected to load. When the load is removed, the load returns to its original place. In other words, spring is a mechanical device formed of a material with a high yield strength that is used to restore elasticity. It is employed in a variety of machines to absorb shocks and resist the propagation of shocks and vibrations to various essential machine elements.

A carbon brush is a component used to conduct electrical current between the stationary and rotating parts of a motor. In a generator or motor, the commutator rotates on a shaft and the fixed carbon brush rides on it to permit the flow of electricity and complete a circuit.
