Description
3M Scotch 23 Rubber Splicing Tape, 19 mm x 9 m — BOLTON SKU 54153.
About the 3M Scotch 23 Rubber Splicing Tape
Rubber splicing tape is applied under tension and fuses to itself as it is wrapped, so the wrap consolidates into a continuous rubber mass rather than remaining a stack of separate turns. The 3M Scotch 23 industrial adhesive tape is supplied 19 mm wide on a 9 m roll and is used to build up insulation over a joint before an outer protective layer is applied. Because the tape is stretched during application, usable coverage depends on the wrap technique and overlap rather than on roll length alone, which is why splicing tapes are supplied in short rolls compared with general-purpose tapes. Scotch 23 is a specific 3M reference: quote it in full when replenishing, as self-fusing tapes vary in compound and thickness. Where a voltage class, cable type or jointing procedure has to be satisfied, request the current 3M datasheet with your enquiry so the tape can be checked against the jointing instruction.

Typical applications
Splicing tape of this kind is used by electrical and maintenance teams to rebuild insulation on cable splices, terminations and repairs, and to form a moisture-resistant body around an irregular joint that a flat tape cannot follow. The 19 mm width is a practical size for hand wrapping around conductors and lugs. A 9 m roll suits jointing kits and maintenance vehicles, where the tape is consumed a joint at a time rather than in production runs.
