Loctite 242 is a single-component anaerobic threadlocking adhesive: it stays liquid while in contact with air and cures to a hard thermoset inside the confined, metal-to-metal space of an assembled thread. The cured resin fills the clearance between male and female threads, so the joint is locked against vibration loosening and sealed against ingress of moisture and fluids along the thread path. It is the medium-strength, blue-coloured grade — the classification used across the threadlocker range for products intended to be disassembled later with ordinary hand tools rather than requiring heat or destructive removal.
