Description
ISO10511 M4-A4 NUT M4 PREVAILING TORQUE TYPE HEXAGON TH — BOLTON SKU 56925.
About the ISO 10511 M4-A4 Nut M4 Prevailing
This fastener is a prevailing torque hexagon thin nut manufactured to ISO 10511, in M4 metric coarse thread and A4 stainless steel. ISO 10511 specifies thin-style hexagon lock nuts fitted with a non-metallic (polyamide) insert: as the mating thread enters the insert, the polymer deforms and grips the thread, generating a prevailing torque that resists self-loosening under vibration without marring the bolt thread. The A4 material class is the molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless grade (316 type), selected for its corrosion resistance in marine, chemical and outdoor environments. Being the thin (low-profile) style, ISO 10511 nuts occupy less axial height than full-height prevailing torque nuts, and the standard notes their correspondingly reduced load capability compared with regular-height nuts — a consideration for joint design. Insert-type nuts are also reuse-limited, since the locking action relies on the polyamide ring and diminishes with repeated assembly.
Key specifications
| Type | Prevailing torque hexagon thin nut (non-metallic insert) |
|---|---|
| Standard | ISO 10511 |
| Thread | M4, metric coarse |
| Material | A4 stainless steel (316 type) |
| Locking feature | Polyamide insert, prevailing torque |

Typical applications
Insert-type lock nuts are used throughout vibrating assemblies — vehicle and equipment structures, enclosures, UAV airframes and marine hardware — wherever fasteners must stay tight without thread adhesives. The A4 grade suits coastal, offshore and chemically exposed installations.
