Description

8156174 NUT HEX LOCK M3 ISO 7040 SS A2 HIGH TYPE — BOLTON SKU 63724.

About the 8156174 Hex Lock Nut M3 ISO

ISO 7040 specifies prevailing torque hexagon regular nuts with a non-metallic insert, in steel and stainless steel, with metric coarse pitch threads. Standards references give the covered size range as M3 to M36, in product grade A for threads up to and including M16 and grade B above that, and list DIN 982 as the equivalent German norm. The locking action comes from a polymer insert seated in the top of the nut: as the bolt thread cuts into the insert it generates prevailing torque, so the nut resists loosening under vibration without needing a separate lock washer or thread-locking adhesive. Steel property classes 5, 8 and 10 are covered, along with austenitic stainless grades A2 and A4. This item is recorded as an M3 nut in A2 stainless steel, and the high-type style wording is carried from the item record rather than from a manufacturer datasheet.

Typical applications

Nyloc nuts of this size are used across equipment assembly and MRO wherever a small threaded joint must hold against vibration but still be dismantled: enclosure and bracket fixings, sensor and antenna mounts, UAV airframe hardware and ground-support assemblies. Nuts with polymer inserts are generally treated as single-use once the prevailing torque has dropped. Follow the assembly drawing for torque and re-use policy.
