Description

Button Head Hexalobular Socket Screw M4 x 12, Steel Zinc Plated Class 8.8, Full Thread, BN — BOLTON SKU 53356.

About the Button Head Hexalobular Socket Screw M4

This fastener is a metric button head screw with an internal hexalobular (Torx-pattern) drive recess, supplied in M4 x 12 mm. The M4 thread runs at the ISO metric coarse pitch of 0.7 mm and is formed over the full shank length, so thread engagement is available across the whole grip. The low domed button head presents a shallow profile and a wide bearing face, spreading load over the joint surface and keeping the head close to flush where clearance above the panel is limited. The hexalobular recess seats the driver bit over a larger contact area than a comparable hexagon socket of the same size, which helps resist cam-out during powered assembly. The screw is carbon steel to property class 8.8 and zinc plated for general corrosion protection. Property class 8.8 denotes a nominal tensile strength of 800 MPa with a yield stress ratio of 0.8, giving a nominal yield of 640 MPa.

Typical applications

Button head screws with a hexalobular recess are chosen where a fastener must sit close to flush on a visible or handled surface, and where powered drivers are used on repetitive assembly. At M4 x 12 the screw suits light bracketry, enclosure lids, panel and cover fixing, and mounting of sub-assemblies into tapped holes or nuts of a matching class. The zinc-plated class 8.8 specification places it in general mechanical assembly indoors or under cover, rather than in continuously wet or salt-laden service.
