Description
Hex Lock Nut M6, A4 Stainless Steel, ISO 7040 — BOLTON SKU 64450.
About the Hex Lock Nut M6 A4 Stainless
ISO 7040 covers prevailing-torque hexagon regular nuts fitted with a non-metallic polyamide insert, which grips the mating thread and resists loosening without needing a separate washer or a thread adhesive. This nut hex lock m6 ss variant is the M6 size, so it takes a coarse 1.0 mm pitch thread and a 10 mm width across flats, allowing it to be driven with a standard 10 mm socket or spanner. The material designation A4 places it in the molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel group of ISO 3506-2, the group normally specified where chloride exposure, marine air or wash-down conditions would attack a plain carbon steel or an A2 fastener. Because the locking action comes from a polymer insert rather than from a deformed metal thread, the nut is intended primarily for assemblies that are torqued once and only occasionally disturbed, and its upper service temperature is set by the insert rather than by the stainless steel body.

Typical applications
M6 stainless locking nuts of this type are used where a vibrating or cyclically loaded joint must hold its clamp load without wire-locking or thread adhesive: machine guarding, panel and bracket fixings, motor and gearbox mounts, and light structural assemblies. The A4 grade extends that to coastal, offshore and wash-down installations where an A2 nut would show surface staining. Being a polymer-insert design, it suits joints that are set once and inspected rather than repeatedly broken and remade.
