ISO 7089 defines the normal series of plain washers in product grade A, supplied flat and without a chamfer on the outside edge, the chamfered equivalent of the same series being covered separately by ISO 7090. In the M2.5 size the standard fixes an inside diameter of 2.7 mm, an outside diameter of 6 mm and a thickness of 0.5 mm, so the washer clears an M2.5 screw shank while spreading the load of the screw head over a wider bearing area. The A2 designation places the material in the standard austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel group, which is non-magnetic in the annealed condition and is the usual choice for indoor, instrument and enclosure hardware where a plated carbon steel washer would eventually rust.
