The 187-0535 shakeproof washer is an RS PRO stainless steel tooth washer, ordered against that RS stock number. Tooth-type shakeproof washers, also called serrated lock washers, carry a ring of hardened teeth twisted slightly out of the plane of the washer. When the fastener is tightened the teeth bite into both the underside of the screw head or nut and the surface of the joint, creating a large number of small mechanical interlocks that resist the relative rotation which allows fasteners to back off under vibration.
