About the 1712969 Countersunk Screw M3x14, A4, ISO 10642
Bossard part 1712969 countersunk socket cap screw is an M3 by 14 mm machine screw with a flat 90 degree countersunk head and an internal hexagon socket drive, manufactured in A4 stainless steel. The 90 degree head angle is the metric convention for countersunk fasteners, so the screw seats into a matching conical counterbore and finishes flush with, or slightly below, the surface of the part. That is the reason this head form is chosen wherever a proud head would foul a moving component, a mating face or a seal. Screw length for a countersunk head is measured overall, from the top of the head to the point, because the head is buried in the material, and the thread is a 0.5 mm coarse metric pitch. A4 is the molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless group, specified in preference to A2 where the joint sees salt air, chloride wash-down or standing moisture.

Typical applications
Countersunk M3 socket screws at 14 mm length are used to fix cover plates, mounting feet, rail sections and machined brackets where the fastener head must not stand proud: optical and sensor mounts, airframe and payload brackets, enclosure lids carrying a gasket, and sliding or rotating interfaces. The A4 grade suits marine, coastal and externally exposed installations. The 14 mm length suits a thin countersunk plate fixed into a tapped boss with reasonable thread engagement.
