Hex Socket Button Head Screw M3 x 12, Stainless Steel A4, 1720414 — BOLTON SKU 70525.
About the Hex Socket Button Head Screw M3
The 1720414 button head screw is an M3 by 12 mm machine screw with a low, domed button head and an internal hexagon socket, supplied in A4 stainless steel. A button head has a wider and shallower profile than a standard socket cap head: the larger bearing face spreads the clamping load over soft or thin material and is more forgiving of a slightly oversized clearance hole, while the reduced head height keeps the fastener from standing far above the surface. The trade-off is a shallower socket, so a button head screw is not intended to carry the same tightening torque as a cap screw of the same thread, and it is normally specified for cover and panel work rather than for highly loaded structural joints. The thread is a 0.5 mm coarse metric pitch and length is measured from the underside of the head. A4 is the molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless group.

Typical applications
Button head M3 screws are used on covers, guards, trim panels, cable-management brackets and handle or latch fittings, where the rounded head is less likely to snag clothing or cabling and gives a tidier finish than a cap head. The wide bearing face suits fixings into aluminium, plastic and thin sheet. The A4 material makes them suitable for externally mounted panels and wash-down environments where an A2 screw would eventually stain.
