This item is an M2 hexagon thin nut in A4 stainless steel, carried against the reference 3146250. Hexagon thin nuts in this size are covered by ISO 4035, the chamfered thin-nut standard whose earlier designation is DIN 439 B; for M2 that standard gives a 4 mm nominal width across flats and a nut height of 1.2 mm maximum, against a 0.4 mm coarse thread pitch. The defining characteristic of a thin nut is reduced height, which lowers the number of engaged thread turns and therefore the load the nut can carry compared with a standard-height ISO 4032 nut of the same thread. It is used where axial space is limited, and as a jam or lock nut run up behind a full nut or against a component to hold a setting. A4 is the molybdenum-bearing austenitic grade specified for chloride, marine and wash-down exposure.
