Description
ISO 4762 Socket Head Cap Screw M5x10 Steel — BOLTON SKU 69196.
About the ISO 4762 Socket Head Cap Screw
ISO 4762 defines hexagon socket head cap screws in product grade A and is the international equivalent of DIN 912. In the M5 size the standard sets a head diameter of 8.50 mm maximum, a head height of 5.00 mm maximum and a 4 mm hexagon socket, on an M5 x 0.8 coarse thread. This item is the short 10 mm nominal length in steel. Stepping up from M4 to M5 raises the tensile section of the screw by roughly half for only 1.5 mm more head diameter, which is why M5 is such a common choice where an M4 joint is marginal but space is still tight. The 4 mm hexagon key is also a size most maintenance teams already carry. Property class and any plating or passivation are specified per order.

Typical applications
A 10 mm length in M5 is a short-grip fixing: cover plates onto tapped housings, foot and bracket feet bolted to thick sections, blanking plates and end caps. Because so little of the shank is exposed, this length is often used where a longer screw would foul internal components or bottom in a blind hole, and where a 4 mm hex key can still be swung in a confined recess.
