Description
96990A916 Metric Press-Fit Drill Bushing with Chamfer on One End, 5 mm ID, 10 mm OD, 20 mm — BOLTON SKU 60026.
About the 96990A916 Drill Bushing, 5 mm ID
The 96990A916 press-fit drill bushing is a headless metric guide bushing with a 5 mm inside diameter, a 10 mm outside diameter and a 20 mm length, carrying a chamfer on one end. Press-fit bushings are installed directly into a reamed hole in a jig plate or fixture, with no shoulder or head bearing on the plate face, so the bushing sits flush and the plate can be clamped down without obstruction. The chamfered end is the lead-in for pressing the bushing into the plate. McMaster-Carr specifies bushings of this family in hardened and ground steel, which holds its dimensions and resists the abrasion of repeated drill passes so the bore stays within tolerance over many cycles. The 96990A916 press-fit drill bushing is one of a metric range covering a series of bore and outside-diameter combinations.

Typical applications
A 5 mm bore guides 5 mm drills and reamers, the size commonly used for M6 clearance holes and for dowel and locating-pin holes. With 20 mm of length against a 5 mm bore, the bushing gives a long guide relative to bore diameter, which is what keeps a slender drill from wandering as it enters the work. It is used in drill jigs and repeatable fixtures where the same hole position must be produced across a batch of parts.
