Description
Hex Nylock Nut M3, 5.5 mm A/F, Steel Class 8, Zinc Plated, DIN 985 / ISO 10511 — BOLTON SKU 55343.
About the Hex Nylock Nut M3, 5.5 mm A/F
DIN 985 / ISO 10511 covers prevailing-torque hexagon nuts with a non-metallic insert — the familiar nylon-insert lock nut. This Hex Nylock Nut M3 5.5 mm across-flats size carries the standard metric coarse thread for M3 (0.5 mm pitch) and is made from steel in property class 8 with a zinc-plated finish for corrosion protection. A polyamide (nylon) collar seated in the top of the nut deforms elastically around the mating thread as the nut is run down, generating a prevailing torque that resists self-loosening under vibration without any separate lock washer. The insert works by friction rather than thread damage, so the mating screw thread is not marked in normal use. Because the locking action does not depend on clamp load, the nut also holds its position on joints deliberately left free to pivot.

M3 nylock nuts secure small bolted joints that see vibration — fan mounts, control linkages, panel hardware and instrument fixings on machinery and vehicles. The class 8 zinc-plated specification is the common general-engineering grade for indoor and sheltered service.
