Description
ISO 4762 Socket Head Cap Screw M5x16-A4 — BOLTON SKU 56922.
About the ISO 4762 Socket Head Cap Screw M5x16-A4
An M5 x 16 mm hexagon socket head cap screw in A4 stainless steel, manufactured to the ISO 4762 dimensional standard (interchangeable with DIN 912). ISO 4762 defines the familiar cylindrical-head, internal-hexagon cap screw used wherever fasteners must be recessed or tightened in confined spaces. At M5 the coarse thread pitch is 0.8 mm, the head measures 8.5 mm maximum in diameter and 5 mm in height, and the drive is a 4 mm hex key. The 16 mm nominal length is a middle-of-range option for this diameter, balancing thread engagement against protrusion in compact assemblies. The A4 material class sits in the molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless family of ISO 3506 (316 type), selected for improved pitting and crevice-corrosion resistance over A2 in chloride-exposed service. The ISO 4762 Socket Head Cap Screw geometry allows high preload for its size when torqued with standard hex keys or bits.

Typical applications
M5 x 16 is a workhorse size for fixing covers, brackets and sub-assemblies into tapped holes where roughly two to three diameters of engagement are available. Its counterbore-compatible head keeps surfaces snag-free on jigs, fixtures and enclosure work, with the A4 grade covering salt-laden or frequently washed environments.
