The ISO 4762 Screw M10x40 Class 12.9 is a high-strength alloy-steel hexagon socket head cap screw, M10 thread by 40 mm nominal length. Property class 12.9 to ISO 898-1 denotes a nominal tensile strength of 1200 MPa with a minimum 0.2% proof stress of 1100 MPa — the highest of the common metric property classes and the usual grade for heavily loaded socket cap screws. Dimensionally, the M10 size of ISO 4762 (equivalent to DIN 912) has a 1.5 mm coarse thread pitch, a 16 mm maximum head diameter, a 10 mm head height and an 8 mm internal hexagon drive. The cylindrical head is designed to sit in a counterbore, allowing high preload to be applied with a hex key or socket bit in confined locations where external-hex tooling cannot fit.
