This Bossard Hex Nut M3 Left-Hand Thread is a hexagon nut to the ISO 4032 pattern with the non-standard feature that defines it: an M3 x 0.5 left-hand (counter-clockwise) thread. A left-hand nut tightens when turned anticlockwise, so it is used on mating left-hand threaded studs and shafts where normal rotation would progressively loosen a right-hand nut — the classic remedy for fasteners on rotating or oscillating parts, and one half of a turnbuckle-style opposed-thread adjustment. Geometry otherwise follows the standard hex nut form, with a 5.5 mm width across flats for the M3 size driven by a 5.5 mm spanner or socket. The material is A4 austenitic stainless steel, the molybdenum-alloyed 316-type acid-resistant grade suited to marine and chemically exposed service, and the nut is produced by Bossard, the Swiss industrial fastener manufacturer.
