About the Hex Lock Nut M6, Stainless Steel A4
This Hex Lock Nut M6 Stainless Steel part is a prevailing-torque type hexagon nut with a non-metallic insert, manufactured to ISO 7040 (style 1), the standard that covers such nuts from M3 up to and including M36. A polyamide ring is captive in the top of the nut; as the mating M6 thread cuts into the unthreaded insert it generates a prevailing torque that resists self-loosening under vibration and shock, without marking the bolt thread the way all-metal locking features can. The nut body is A4 austenitic stainless steel, a molybdenum-alloyed grade with enhanced resistance to chlorides and marine atmospheres, so the fastener suits corrosion-exposed joints when paired with A4 bolts and washers. Because the prevailing torque is generated by the insert itself, the locking action does not depend on joint preload and remains present even if the joint relaxes in service.
