About the ESAB ER5356 Aluminium Welding Wire 1.2 mm
ESAB ER5356 Aluminium Welding Wire 1.2 mm is a solid aluminium-magnesium MIG welding wire classified to AWS A5.10 ER5356, supplied on a 7 kg spool. The ER5356 classification contains nominally 5% magnesium (4.5–5.5% per the classification chemistry) with a small chromium addition that refines the weld grain structure. It is the general-purpose filler for welding 5xxx-series aluminium-magnesium alloys and is also used on many 6xxx-series structural extrusions. The magnesium content gives good as-welded strength and forms a stable oxide film that resists seawater and chloride attack, which is why ER5356 is widely selected for marine and outdoor aluminium structures. ESAB manufactures its filler metals under certified quality-control programmes to the AWS classification. Typical applications
ER5356 in 1.2 mm diameter is used for MIG welding aluminium plate, extrusions and fabrications in 5xxx and compatible 6xxx alloys — frames, tanks, enclosures and structures exposed to coastal or marine atmospheres. The chloride resistance of the 5% Mg deposit makes it a standard choice where welds face salt spray or wash-down conditions.
