Description
ISO 4762 Hexagon Socket Head Cap Screw M5 x 16, Steel — BOLTON SKU 69199.
About the ISO 4762 Hexagon Socket Head Cap Screw
This is a steel hexagon socket head cap screw manufactured to ISO 4762, the international standard defining the dimensions of socket cap screws (technically equivalent to the familiar DIN 912 pattern). The M5 coarse thread has a 0.8 mm pitch, the nominal length is 16 mm, and ISO 4762 assigns the M5 size a 4 mm internal hexagon socket with a cylindrical head nominally 8.5 mm in diameter, designed to sit flush in a counterbore. The knurled or plain cap head with deep socket allows high preload from a compact head envelope, which is why this head form dominates machine-tool, fixture and equipment construction. Material is steel; where a specific property class (for example 8.8 or 12.9) or coating is required, it should be stated on the RFQ so supply can be matched and certified accordingly.

Typical applications
M5 x 16 socket cap screws are a staple of machine building: clamping gibs, mounting rails, sensor brackets, gearbox covers and tooling plates where the head sits in a counterbore. The 16 mm length gives roughly 10-12 mm of usable engagement in a tapped hole after passing a standard plate thickness.
