This socket cap screw is made to ISO 4762 in A4 stainless steel, with an M5 coarse thread (0.8 mm pitch) and a 12 mm nominal length. ISO 4762 defines the cylindrical-head, internal-hexagon geometry — a 4 mm socket at the M5 size — that seats flush in counterbores and delivers high preload from a small head. The distinguishing feature of this variant is its material: A4 designates the molybdenum-alloyed austenitic stainless grade of the ISO 3506 fastener system, the 316-type chemistry, whose molybdenum addition markedly improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments compared with the standard A2 grade. That makes A4 the default choice near seawater, in coastal atmospheres and where chlorinated cleaning agents are used.
