Description
ISO 10511 M12-A4 Nut, Steel, Prevailing Torque Type Hexagon Thin — BOLTON SKU 56559.
About the ISO 10511 M12-A4 Nut, Steel, Prevailing Torque
The ISO 10511 M12-A4 Nut Steel Prevailing torque hexagon thin nut is a metric locknut manufactured to ISO 10511, the international standard for prevailing torque hexagon thin nuts with a non-metallic insert. The polymer insert grips the mating thread to resist self-loosening under vibration, without damaging the bolt thread. This item is the M12 size — metric coarse pitch — in stainless steel property class A4, the acid-resistant austenitic grade defined for fasteners in ISO 3506. ISO 10511 covers coarse-thread sizes M3 to M39 in steel and stainless steel; sizes up to and including M16 are produced to product grade A. As a thin (low-profile) style nut, it has reduced load capability compared with regular-height prevailing torque nuts and is not designed to resist thread stripping at full bolt load — a standard-level characteristic to consider at joint design.

Typical applications
M12 A4 thin locknuts are chosen where a vibration-resistant secondary nut or low-profile locking element is needed in corrosive environments — marine and coastal installations, chemical plant and exterior equipment. The thin style is frequently run against a plain nut as a jam-type locking arrangement on M12 studs and bolts.
