About the M.A. Ford 3.1mm Diameter Metric Fiberglass Router
This is the 3.1 mm cutting-diameter cutter from M.A. Ford’s metric fiberglass router line of solid carbide, burr-fluted tools for abrasive composite materials, supplied in the bur-end style that cuts on the tip for plunge entry. A 3.1 mm diameter is a deliberate over-nominal size: routing a slot with it yields an opening just over 3 mm, giving working clearance around 3 mm fasteners, pins and tab features that an exactly 3 mm cutter would leave as an interference fit once surface roughness is accounted for. That makes this size a fit-and-clearance tool in panel work rather than a general profiling cutter. As with the rest of the family, the dense pattern of small carbide teeth is designed to shear glass fibres cleanly at high spindle speed, holding back the edge fraying and delamination that plague conventional milling cutters in laminate.

Typical applications
