Description
Cable Sleeve Tool Cutter, For Use With Braided Sleeving — BOLTON SKU 64428.
About the HellermannTyton 170-99001 Braided Sleeving Cutter
HellermannTyton supplies this tool as part number 170-99001, type reference HSG0-BU. It is a hand-held hot cutter rather than a mechanical blade: an element in the head heats within seconds of the button being pressed, and the heated edge is then drawn through the material. Because the strands melt and fuse as they part, braided sleeving and other synthetic fabrics are left with a sealed end that does not fray, so no separate whipping, tape or heat-shrink cap is needed to finish the cut. The tool weighs 1150 g and is supplied as a mains-powered unit with a European plug. Cutting braided sleeving cold tends to leave loose filaments that migrate into connectors and terminations, which is the problem this tool is intended to remove.

Typical applications
A hot cutting tool is used during harness manufacture and repair to cut braided sleeving, expandable sleeving and woven tapes to length with a sealed end. It applies wherever loose filaments would otherwise contaminate connectors, backshells or moving assemblies. Bench and field harness shops use it as an alternative to cutting cold and then sealing the end with tape or heat-shrink.
