About the SS-422-CF Carbon Filter, 22 lb Heavy-Duty
The SS-422-CF activated carbon filter is the replacement carbon stage for Sentry Air Systems Model 400 and Model 450 fume extraction units, holding 22 lb of heavy-duty activated carbon. Activated carbon works by adsorption rather than by straining: the carbon is treated so that its internal pore structure presents a very large surface area, and gas-phase molecules adhere to that surface as the airstream passes through. This is the stage that removes odours and chemical vapours, which a particulate filter alone cannot capture. The 22 lb charge is the heavy-duty fill for this housing, intended for continuous duty rather than intermittent use. Because carbon is consumed as it loads, this item is a scheduled consumable and is replaced on a service interval rather than cleaned.
