Isopropyl alcohol, also written as isopropanol or propan-2-ol, is a colourless, volatile alcohol that is fully miscible with water. This item is the 70% grade — that is, isopropyl alcohol diluted with water rather than the near-anhydrous product — and is listed for antiseptic and disinfectant duty. The dilution is deliberate: the water content is what makes the 70% grade the concentration conventionally specified for surface and skin antisepsis, and the slower evaporation of the diluted solution keeps a treated surface wetted for longer than neat alcohol would.
