Overview
A full coupling is a short cylindrical fitting threaded internally at both ends so that two lengths of threaded pipe can be joined end to end. This one is a 1/2 in black malleable iron coupling: black means the iron is left uncoated rather than galvanised, and malleable iron gives the fitting the toughness needed for wrench assembly. The photographed part shows the characteristic cast body with internal threads and raised cast markings.
