About the Stahlwille 12030003 Increaser Piece
The Stahlwille 12030003 Increaser technical component is a square-drive adaptor that works in the opposite direction to a reducer: it lets a smaller-drive tool carry a larger-drive socket. Stahlwille identifies the piece by order number 12030003. One side is a 3/8 in drive square and the other is a 1/2 in drive square, so a 3/8 in ratchet, extension or torque wrench can pick up 1/2 in sockets, impact-pattern hand sockets and universal joints already held in the workshop. As with any increaser, the adaptor does not raise the torque capacity of the tool driving it — the 3/8 in ratchet or wrench upstream remains the limiting element, and the larger socket should not be treated as licence to apply 1/2 in loads through it.

Typical applications
Reaching for this increaser is normal when a 3/8 in torque wrench covers the specified setting but only a 1/2 in socket exists in the required size — larger hex sizes, deep sockets and specialist profiles are frequently stocked only in 1/2 in. It also helps in awkward access, where the slimmer 3/8 in ratchet head fits a gap that a 1/2 in head will not, while the socket itself stays full size. Mobile maintenance kits often carry one to avoid duplicating a whole socket range.
