The long arm of each key carries a ball end, which lets the key be entered at an angle to the screw axis — Stahlwille quotes a turning angle of up to 25° either side of centre — so a screw set behind an obstruction can still be driven without a straight-on approach. The ball end also holds the screw on the key when starting a fastener into a blind location. Keys are chrome alloy steel with a nickel-plated finish.
