About the Momentive TSE 397-C Clear Silicone Adhes Industrial
TSE397 is a one-component silicone adhesive sealant that cures on exposure to atmospheric moisture to form an elastic silicone rubber. Momentive’s technical data sheet lists it as fast curing and non-corrosive to metals, meeting the MIL-A-46146B corrosion test with a result of “None”, and it releases an alcohol vapour during cure rather than acetic acid, so it can be used directly on electrical and electronic parts. Primerless adhesion to many substrates is claimed, along with weatherability, ozone and chemical resistance and good electrical insulation. The published service range is −55 °C to +200 °C. Uncured appearance is a flowable paste at 50 Pa·s viscosity with a tack-free time of about 10 minutes at 23 °C. After seven days at 23 °C and 50 % relative humidity the cured rubber is quoted at 1.04 g/cm³ density, Type A hardness 13, 1.2 MPa tensile strength and 360 % elongation. The C suffix denotes the clear grade.

Typical applications
Momentive lists TSE397 for insulating adhesive sealing and fixing of electrical and electronic parts, waterproof sealing of electrical, electronic and communication equipment, and general adhesive duty on metals, glass and plastics. Because the cure is non-corrosive it is used close to copper and plated conductors where an acetoxy silicone would be unacceptable. In aerospace, defence and MRO workshops it appears in avionics and enclosure work, and for sealing and damping small assemblies.
