Kit 198567-1 is a Makita power source set that pairs two BL1850B lithium-ion battery packs, each 18 V and 5.0 Ah, with one DC18RD charger. The DC18RD is a two-port charger covering 14.4 V and 18 V Makita lithium-ion packs, and it can charge two batteries at the same time rather than in sequence. Charging is managed by a built-in CPU that communicates with the individual cells and regulates current, voltage and temperature through the charge cycle, and a forced-cooling system draws heat out of the pack while it charges. An electronic current limiter provides overload protection, and an LED display indicates charging status. The charger also carries a USB port with a 1.5 A output for charging phones, tablets and similar devices from the same unit — useful where a single mains outlet has to serve a whole work position.
