About the DeWalt DCD996P2 20V Cordless Hammer Dril Power
The DeWalt DCD996P2 20V power tool is supplied as a complete kit built around a 20V MAX XR brushless three-speed hammer drill/driver. The kit comprises one DCD996 hammer drill/driver, two DCB205 20V MAX XR lithium-ion 5.0 Ah battery packs, a charger, a belt hook, a 360° side handle and a kit box. The tool uses a brushless motor and an all-metal three-speed transmission, giving no-load speeds of 0-450, 0-1300 and 0-2000 rpm in drill mode and 0-500, 0-1500 and 0-2250 rpm in hammer mode, with an impact rate of up to 38,250 blows per minute for masonry work. Bits are held in a 1/2 in (13 mm) ratcheting nitro-carburized metal chuck with carbide inserts. A three-mode LED work light with a spotlight setting and a 20-minute shut-off is fitted for work in confined or poorly lit spaces.

Typical applications
The three-speed transmission and hammer mode make this kit suitable for mixed workshop and site duties — drilling steel and aluminium at low speed with larger bits, driving fasteners at mid speed, and running small-diameter masonry bits into concrete or block when fitting anchors. Two 5.0 Ah packs allow continuous work with one pack charging. The 360° side handle is useful when larger hole saws or auger bits produce significant reaction torque.
