Description
METCAL STTC 106 SOLDERING CARTRIDGE FOR MOST STANDARD APPLICATIONS 775°F Maximum Tip Temperature, Conical Sharp, 0.4mm T — BOLTON SKU 50792.
About the STTC 106 Soldering Equipment
The METCAL STTC 106 (STTC-106) belongs to the 700 series of the STTC cartridge range, the middle temperature class at a nominal 390 °C and the one Metcal positions for the majority of soldering work; the product designation states a 775 °F maximum tip temperature. Its working face is a sharp conical point 0.4 mm across on a 13.7 mm tip length — a long, slender geometry that reaches into densely populated boards and lets the operator touch a single pad or lead without bridging neighbours. That reach and fineness come at the cost of thermal mass, which is why the 0.4 mm conical is a fine-pitch and touch-up tool rather than a heavy termination tool. The heater is integral to the cartridge, so temperature class and tip shape are selected together. Distributor listings give it for MX-500, MX-5000 and MX-5200 systems with the MX-RM3E or MX-H1-AV hand-piece.

Typical applications
A 0.4 mm sharp conical is the everyday cartridge for chip components, fine-pitch IC leads, connector pins on close centres and solder-bridge correction during inspection and rework. Repair benches handling avionics and UAV boards keep it loaded for touch-up passes, where the operator needs to see the joint and reach it without disturbing adjacent parts.
