Description
RAY-101-4.0 Tubular Ground Braid, 4.00mm (0.157 in) ID, 36 AWG — BOLTON SKU 53272.
About the RAY-101-4.0 Tubular Ground Braid, 4.00mm Technical
RAY-101 is the tin-plated copper grade of the Raychem RayBraid tubular braid family, produced for the electrical screening of wire bundles and military harnesses. This size is built on a 4.0 mm plastic former held to ±0.25 mm, which keeps the braid open and round during handling and allows it to be slid off the former directly onto the bundle. The braid is constructed from 24 carriers with 7 ends per carrier, using individual tin-plated copper strands of 36 AWG (0.13 mm), and delivers a minimum optical coverage of 93 per cent. Its expansion allows it to be fitted over cable bundles between approximately 3.5 mm and 7.5 mm in diameter, so a single size covers a useful spread of harness branches. RAY-101 is a flexible braid with a high expansion ratio, which helps when routing screened runs around bends and breakouts.

Typical applications
At 4.0 mm former diameter this size is aimed at thin harness branches, individual screened runs and short pigtails rather than main trunks — the 3.5 to 7.5 mm bundle window covers most small multi-core breakouts. The 36 AWG strand construction keeps the braid light and pliable, which matters where screening is added late in a build and must follow an existing routing path. It is used for EMI screening and grounding continuity on wiring looms in defence, aerospace and vehicle electrical installations.
