About the 3M 764 Vinyl Tape, Orange
3M 764 is a general purpose vinyl tape built on a conformable vinyl film backing with a pressure-sensitive adhesive. This variant is supplied in orange, 3 in (76.2 mm) wide on a 36 yd (32.9 m) roll, at a total thickness of 5 mil (0.13 mm). The vinyl backing is what defines the product: it stretches and conforms around curves and irregular surfaces rather than tenting the way a stiffer film or paper tape does, and it resists abrasion and scuffing in service. Colour is functional rather than decorative here, since the range is supplied in a set of solid colours so that one tape type can serve a whole site colour-coding scheme; orange is commonly assigned to hazard and identification marking within such schemes. At 3 in the tape is a wide format, intended for marking that has to be read at a distance rather than for narrow banding or wire wrapping.

Typical applications
General purpose vinyl tape in a wide orange format is used for floor and aisle marking, hazard and keep-clear zones, equipment and container colour-coding, and temporary identification in stores and despatch. The conformable backing lets a single strip run over the joint between a floor and a kerb, or across a curved machine guard, without lifting at the edges. At 3 in wide the marking stays legible along a workshop or warehouse aisle, which is the main reason this width is chosen over the narrower rolls in the range.
