Typical applications
A 0.1 microfarad X7R part in 1206 is the standard supply-decoupling capacitor placed close to the power pins of logic devices, microcontrollers, operational amplifiers and driver ICs, and is also used for bypassing regulator inputs and outputs and for basic filtering on control lines. The 50 V rating gives comfortable headroom on 3.3 V, 5 V, 12 V and 24 V rails. The 1206 body is often retained in preference to smaller cases where hand rework and visual inspection are part of the build process.
