About the W3P Wedge Lock, 3 Way DT Receptacle
The W3P wedge lock receptacle part is the secondary locking wedge for the DEUTSCH DT series 3-way receptacle housing. TE Connectivity’s customer drawing identifies it as a wedge lock, 3 way, receptacle, DT series, moulded in PBT with 30 % glass fill and coloured green. The drawing gives an overall length of 0.808 in (20.52 mm) and a part weight of 0.53 g, and notes that the wedge is used with DT04-3P housings in all their modifications. In a DT connector the wedge is inserted into the rear of the housing after the crimped contacts have been seated; it spreads and retains the contact retention fingers so that the pins cannot back out under vibration or cable load, and it also serves as a visual check that every contact is fully home. Typical applications
DT-series 3-way circuits are widely used for sensors, lamps, small actuators and power feeds on vehicles, generator sets, trailers and off-highway and defence platforms, where the connector has to survive vibration, dust and washdown. The green W3P is the specific wedge for the pin-side receptacle in that 3-way size, so it is the part needed when building up or repairing a DT04-3P assembly, or when a wedge has been lost during contact removal and the circuit has to be re-locked before return to service.
