About the FP301-1/4 Yellow Heat-Shrink Tubing, 3M
FP301-1/4-YELLOW heat-shrink tubing is the quarter-inch yellow version of 3M’s FP-301 thin-wall flexible polyolefin range. It has a 2:1 shrink ratio, so a 1/4 in (6.4 mm) expanded diameter recovers to roughly half that over the object being covered, and the minimum shrink temperature is 100 °C. Once recovered the wall is flame retardant, rated for 600 V insulation service, and specified for continuous operation from −55 °C to 135 °C, with short excursions to higher temperatures tolerated. The material is split resistant, mechanically tough, resists cold flow and takes marking well, which is why it is used as much for identification as for insulation. The product is UL listed under file E-39100, CSA certified, RoHS compliant and meets SAE AS23053/5 Class 1 for coloured tubing. Yellow is commonly reserved for a specific circuit or phase convention within a harness colour scheme.

Typical applications
A 1/4 in coloured thin-wall tubing is the working size for insulating and identifying single-conductor splices, ring and spade terminations and small bundles inside control panels, vehicle looms and equipment racks. The yellow colour is used to code circuits by function or phase and to make a repaired section visible at a glance during inspection. Because the material is markable, the same tubing is used for printed or hand-written wire numbers, and its flame retardance and 600 V rating make it acceptable for general low-voltage wiring repair and component packaging.
