About the Acetone Pure 3.78L
This item is pure acetone supplied in a 3.78-litre container, the metric equivalent of one US gallon. Acetone (propan-2-one, CAS number 67-64-1, formula C3H6O) is a colourless, highly volatile ketone solvent that is fully miscible with water and with most common organic solvents. It boils at approximately 56 °C at atmospheric pressure, which is why it flashes off quickly and leaves very little residue — the property that makes it a standard pre-bond and pre-paint wipe solvent. It dissolves many resins, oils, greases and uncured adhesives, and is widely used for cleaning tooling, removing uncured epoxy and preparing surfaces before bonding. Acetone is highly flammable and attacks many plastics, elastomers and painted finishes, so material compatibility, ventilation and storage arrangements should be established before use. Typical applications
Gallon packs of acetone are used for degreasing metal parts, cleaning composite lay-up tooling and wiping surfaces immediately before adhesive bonding or painting. The same solvent flushes uncured resin from mixing equipment, guns and applicators at the end of a session. Use requires ventilation and controls appropriate to a highly flammable solvent, and collected waste must be handled accordingly.
