859-015Z2-12-16 Bushing, Wire Barrel Reducer, #12 to #16 — BOLTON SKU 52441.
About the 859-015Z2-12-16 Reducer Bushing, #12 to #16
A crimp contact is designed around a specific conductor size, and its wire barrel will not grip a conductor significantly smaller than that without the crimp becoming unreliable. A reducer bushing solves this by filling the difference: it is a small sleeve inserted into the oversized barrel so that the smaller conductor is held concentrically and the crimp forms correctly against it. The 859-015Z2-12-16 wire barrel reducer bushing is the variant that adapts a size #12 wire barrel for termination onto #16 gauge wire, as recorded by the 12-16 element of the part number. Using a reducer keeps the contact and cavity size dictated by the connector layout while allowing the conductor size dictated by the circuit, which is the usual reason for the mismatch.

Typical applications
Reducer bushings are used in circular and rectangular connector build-up where the contact arrangement is fixed by the connector part number but the circuit only calls for a lighter conductor — a low-current signal or sense line running through a cavity sized for power, for example. They also appear in repair and modification work, where an existing connector has to accept a re-specified smaller wire without changing the shell. The correct crimp tool, positioner and die setting for the reduced combination should be confirmed before termination.
