This is a granite surface plate measuring 48 in x 72 in with a 6 in working thickness, supplied in the 0-ledge (plain, no clamping ledge) profile and designated Grade B accuracy. Granite surface plates provide the flat reference datum for layout, inspection and gauging work: granite is dimensionally stable, corrosion-free, non-magnetic and, unlike cast iron, does not raise a burr when nicked — a damaged spot simply becomes a small depression that the workpiece bridges. Surface-plate accuracy grades in US practice are defined by standards such as Federal Specification GGG-P-463c and ASME B89.3.7, in which Grade B is the workshop grade generally applied to production inspection and layout duties, with tighter grades A and AA reserved for inspection and laboratory work. Flatness tolerance, calibration certification and stand options should be confirmed in the RFQ.
