About the Securlon L-500Y-GT Bagging Film Gusseted Sheeting
This roll is the gusseted-sheeting (GT) format of Airtech’s SECURLON L-500Y multi-layer vacuum bagging film, in the heavier 0.003 in gauge — approximately 75 microns — at 90 in width on a 295 ft roll. Gusseted sheeting is folded with side gussets rather than a single centre fold, so the film opens out with extra material along its sides. That surplus is what allows the bag to reach down into depth without being pulled tight over the tool edges as vacuum is drawn. The heavier 0.003 in gauge gives more margin against puncture and abrasion than the 0.002 in film in the same range, which is the usual reason for choosing it on tools with harder features. The shorter 295 ft roll length reflects the greater material per linear foot in a gusseted, heavier-gauge product.

Typical applications
Gusseted sheeting in the heavier gauge is specified for vacuum bagging parts with real depth — deep-draw tools, stiffened panels, spars and repair patches over curvature — where a flat film would have to be pleated in by hand to avoid bridging. The extra gauge is chosen where the lay-up includes hard tooling details, fasteners or trimmed edges that can nick a lighter film. As with all bagging film, the maximum use temperature must be matched to the intended cure cycle; confirm this requirement with your RFQ.
