Carborundum model 54459 is the coarse grade in a bench stone format measuring 3 x 8 x 1/2 inch, the coarse face being the first step when a chisel or plane iron has to be reshaped before finer honing. Oil stones are worked with a light honing oil, which floats swarf clear and keeps the abrasive face cutting.
