MOLYKOTE 55 O-Ring Grease is a silicone-based lubricating grease from the DuPont MOLYKOTE range, formulated specifically for elastomeric O-rings and seals. It is a lithium-thickened silicone grease of NLGI grade 2 consistency, with a base oil viscosity of 76 cSt at 40 °C and containing no solid lubricants — so it leaves no abrasive or particulate residue in a sealing groove. The grease is heat stable and oxidation resistant, and is serviceable from approximately −65 °C to +175 °C. A characteristic of this molykote 55 grease o ring product is that it slightly swells rubber O-rings and seals, which helps the seal bed in and improves sealing performance rather than degrading the elastomer. As with any silicone lubricant, elastomer and paint compatibility for the specific application should be verified against the manufacturer’s technical data sheet before use.

Typical applications
The product is used for lubrication between rubber and metal parts, particularly in pneumatic systems in aircraft, automotive and general industrial equipment. Typical duties include assembly lubrication of O-rings and seals in pneumatic cylinders, valves and couplings, and easing seal installation without cutting or rolling the ring. The wide temperature band and absence of solid additives make it appropriate for sealing points that must remain clean and must function at both low ambient and elevated operating temperatures.
