Description
Prevailing Torque Type Hexagon Nut M6 — BOLTON SKU 60837.
About the Prevailing Torque Type Hexagon Nut M6
A prevailing torque nut resists loosening through friction generated inside the nut itself, independently of the clamp load in the joint. That distinguishes it from a plain nut, which relies entirely on bolt tension, and from a free-spinning locking nut, which only engages once seated. Because the locking friction exists before seating, the nut has to be run down the thread against torque, and tightening figures quoted for such a joint include that prevailing element on top of the torque that produces clamp load. This item is an M6 hexagon nut, the M6 coarse thread having a 1.0 mm pitch, and it is driven with an ordinary hexagon spanner or socket. The specific locking mechanism — an all-metal deformed thread or crown, or a non-metallic insert — together with the material, property class and any coating, is set by the variant supplied and should be confirmed on the RFQ so the correct nut M6 prevailing torque type is quoted.

Typical applications
Prevailing torque nuts in M6 are used on joints exposed to vibration or thermal cycling — machinery guards, panels and brackets, vehicle and trailer fittings, generator, fan and pump mountings — where a plain nut would work loose in service. Permitted reuse differs between all-metal and non-metallic-insert designs, so a replacement policy should be agreed where the nut is used on regularly serviced maintenance items.
