Description

RG58 Coaxial Cable, Copper, 50 Ohm — BOLTON SKU 67007.

About the RG58 Coaxial Cable Copper 50 Ohm

RG58 is one of the long-established coaxial cable types used for radio-frequency signal carriage, and this line is listed as rg58/au pure copper coaxial cable with a copper inner conductor and a 50 ohm nominal characteristic impedance. The construction is coaxial: a central conductor, a dielectric layer that holds that conductor concentric within the shield, a braided outer shield and an overall jacket. That geometry is what fixes the characteristic impedance, so the cable can be run between 50 ohm equipment without introducing a deliberate impedance step at the cable itself. The braided shield both carries the return current and screens the inner conductor from external fields. A copper inner conductor is specified here rather than copper-clad steel. Detailed electrical figures such as attenuation per unit length, velocity of propagation and capacitance per metre depend on the individual manufacturer’s construction and are confirmed from the mill datasheet at quotation.

Key specifications

Cable type RG58 coaxial
Nominal characteristic impedance 50 Ω
Inner conductor Copper
Construction Inner conductor, dielectric, braided shield, outer jacket
Application Radio-frequency signal carriage

Typical applications

RG58 at 50 ohm is the usual choice for short and medium interconnects between transceivers, antennas, test instruments and RF modules, and for patch leads terminated in BNC, TNC or N-type connectors. The flexible braided construction makes it straightforward to route inside racks and enclosures and to dress around bulkheads. A copper-conductor grade is preferred where terminations are soldered or crimped frequently and low conductor resistance matters more than conductor tensile strength.
