About the Gland Cap Nut Nickel PG16 Brass
This part is the cap (dome) nut of a cable gland assembly, made in brass with a nickel-plated finish and threaded PG16. Catalogued as gland cap nut nickel ip68, it is the component tightened down over the sealing insert of a gland body: as the nut advances on the PG16 thread it compresses the seal onto the cable jacket, and that compression is what forms both the seal and the strain relief. PG (Panzergewinde) is the older conduit thread series still widely used on European-pattern glands, and a PG16 nut mates only with a PG16 gland body. Brass gives a stable, machinable body that withstands the crushing loads of repeated tightening, while nickel plating provides a harder and more corrosion-resistant outer surface than bare brass. Ingress protection ratings such as IP68 are a property of the complete assembled gland — body, seal and nut — fitted to a cable of the correct diameter, not of the nut on its own.
