About the 3M Safety Goggles 2890 / 2891-SGAF, Clea
The 2890 Series comprises indirectly ventilated and sealed goggles; the 2891-SGAF is the indirectly ventilated version with a clear polycarbonate lens carrying a 3M Scotchgard coating. That coating gives the lens a K rating for anti-scratch and an N rating for anti-fog under EN 166:2001 — the property that keeps the goggle usable through a full task in hot or humid conditions where an uncoated lens mists. The lens is optical class 1, so it is approved for prolonged wear rather than intermittent use, and it also protects against UV radiation in accordance with EN 170:2002. Indirect ventilation admits airflow while keeping a direct path to the eye closed. The frame is PVC with a nylon temple attachment and a wide adjustable polyester headband, and a pivoting ratchet allows the fit to be set individually. The goggle can be worn over prescription spectacles and weighs 99 g. Lens marking is 2C-1.2C 3M 1 BT 9 K N; frame marking is 3M EN166 3 4 9 BT CE.

The frame marking 3 4 9 covers liquid droplets, large dust particles and molten metal and hot solids, and the BT lens marking covers medium-energy impact at extremes of temperature — a combination that fits general assembly, industrial manufacturing, electronic component work, laboratory and construction tasks. Being indirectly ventilated rather than sealed, this variant is not the one to select where fine particles or gases must be excluded; the sealed 2890S or 2891S-SGAF covers that case. The anti-fog coating is the deciding factor for warm, enclosed work areas.
