About the Loctite 222 Threadlocking Adhesive – Low
LOCTITE 222 is a single-component anaerobic threadlocking adhesive. Anaerobic products stay liquid while they are exposed to air and cure only when confined between close-fitting metal surfaces, so the adhesive sets inside the engaged threads of an assembled fastener rather than on the outside of the joint. The 222 grade is the low-strength member of the threadlocker range: it is formulated so that a treated fastener can still be released later using ordinary hand tools, which is why it is specified for small screws, adjustment screws and instrument hardware that need to resist vibration loosening yet be revisited during setting or servicing. The product is supplied as a purple liquid, the colour acting as a visual confirmation that a thread has been treated. Typical applications
Low-strength threadlockers of this grade are applied to fasteners that are deliberately adjusted or removed as part of normal servicing — set and calibration screws, small instrument and panel hardware, and threaded fasteners in light alloys where a higher-strength grade would risk thread damage on removal. In defence, aerospace support and industrial maintenance workshops it is used at assembly so that vibration does not back a fastener out, while keeping the joint serviceable without heat or extraction tooling.
